Strengths: Great picture, especially when put at 1080i (its highest HD format), excellent for games, lasts a while (had it for 5 years now), GREAT speakers if you hook up an HD cable (HDMI).
Weaknesses: Warm up time sometimes takes too long, it takes the fan about 5 minutes to turn off.
Summary: Overall excellent TV for anything you want to do with it. I play my Xbox 360 on that TV with an HDMI cable at 1080i, and it looks outstanding from a distance. When you get close to it, however, you start seeing pixels clearly about 2 feet away from the TV. I can't say this TV is as quality as those huge TVs for light gun games in the arcade. One arcade game, which runs in 1080i, looks amazing no matter how close you get to it. I'm wondering whether it's the signal to my TV, or the quality of the picture. Either way, this is a great TV with great picture and great sound, as well as durability. We've only had one problem with it - when the there was this weird liquid/light thing that went on the side bar of the TV. We had to call a guy to come over and add a part. Other than that and replacing the light for $200, it is great!

Strengths: Size, easy menu to navigate, can control ALL aspects for picture and audio adjustments(but you will not have to change any picture aspects-great out of the box!). Very stable picture even w/movement.
Weaknesses: REMOTE-not very useful. I can't program it to control my Pioneer DVD (NEW) and you can only program a 1 video and 1 cable box - thats it. Hard to believe! "Black" not super black butbetterthanexpected
Summary: Well I ran this TV through it's paces for a week now. First I put a THX DVD in the player and ran the THX setup (this is a great and free way to "pro" adjust your picture).

I did not have to change a thing! Happy! Then I ran the Matrix for movement, Monsters Inc. for color and clarity and Saving Private Ryan for color wash and "unsteady" cimematography. I can't find fault. The DLP folks want you to beleave that you will have a smeared , screen door, poor contrast, bad blacks nighmare on your hands.

Well, NO I say! I did my homework and viewed several DLP and LCD sets. Sony had the best picture (ya, even with the screen door effect!). DLP sets just gave me vertigo and headaches and I do see the rainbow effect along with poor digital conversion resulting in big boxes of pixils once in a while. Sorry, I just could not buy a DLP . Maybe if DLP had three color chips and not one, I would have got a DLP.

Regular analog cable TV is up-converted better than I thought. Almost-again-Almost as good as HDTV.

The bad...The remote is junk, and black is not super black, but I'm very happy.

Oh I purchased a extended warranty for 4 years (MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS!) with SONY ($230) not Best Buy ($400). I never buy extended warrantys but my homework proved this is wise.

make sure you call SONY about once a year stating that your picture is dimming. They will service the Bulb(not replace)and check picture calabration for free . Do this for four years. Do your homework. Yes look a DLP's and make your own move.

Ps 50+" flat panel LCD's are on the way!!!(Consumer electonics show in Los Vegas 2005 has them)

This will kill plasmas and will be the next "big one" we will buy, four or five years from now. Hope this helps.

Strengths: Excellent picture on both digital cable and DVD. Good sound from television speakers.
Weaknesses: Warm-up time approx. 45 sec. Cooling fan noticable.
Summary: I have enjoyed viewing this screen since day one. It has taken a little adjustment of the screen to get it right. Fortunately, the adjustments are easy to make. I just got digital cable with HDTV and the picture is unbeatable. I'm Getting ready to hook-up the digital optical audio to my amp. I can't wait. Football will never be the same.

Strengths: Beautiful HD picture, lightweight, elegant design. Excellent for viewing movies, high def tv, and playing video games.
Weaknesses: Standard television signals look poor when viewed at such a large size.
Summary: 2004-11-18 06:39:46 In the few days I've had this tv, I've come to like it more and more. With so many inputs available, I've had no trouble hooking up my many components and video game systems. The side-by-side PIP windows are amazing. You can watch any of your two inputs in windows that can be sized to share equal portions of the screen - no more tiny little window in a corner.

While regular television signals don't look so great (grainy, fuzzy), when I turn to an HD channel it makes it all worth while. The color and clarity of the picture is astounding.

To counter another review, I'd like to point out that this tv DOES have front A/V inputs, they're cleverly concealed in the frame, and drop down when you press in.

I recommend this tv with no qualms. The issues with it are issues you'd find with any HD tv of this size.

Strengths: Very clear and vivid picture. Built-in HD tuner. Slide show with MP3 music.
Weaknesses: Only accepts mem stick for slide show. Can't use flash card or other cards from digital cameras.
Summary: I was pleasantly surprised to find so many on-air digital channels received by the built-in HD tunner. I first used a 10 year old rabbit ear antenna. The TV automatically found about 8 digital channels. Then, I bought a new RCA powered (45 db gain) antenna from Walmart and tried again. This time the TV found 14 digital channels (the analog channels are all crappy from where I live). All the big networks (ABC, NBC, CBC, PBS, WB, FOX, etc) have digital broadcasts in more than one channels. It's Digital and Free. I promptly cancelled the local channel service (saving $5./mos) from Dishnetwork. Watching shows and sports in HD wide screen is truly an enjoyment.

The slide show on this TV is a lot of fun with different transition modes and your favorite mp3 music. The pictures look clear and sharp considering the large screen size.

Strengths: Picture quality and brightness. Ease of use and set-up. Remote control. Size. On-screen features. Built-in HDTV tuner.
Weaknesses: Long start-up time. Average sound system.
Summary: This TV has a truly outstanding picture! I've seen many LCD TV's, and SONY clearly leads this market in my estimation. The size is perfect for most rooms, the remote control is easy to use, and setting everything up is simple. The built-in tuner picks up over-the-air HDTV stations very well. The HDTV and DVD quality are as good as you'll find in any LCD TV. Viewing Memory Stick pictures is easy and a real pleasure on such a huge screen. A few channels don't come in well, which is likely a function of my cable company rather than the TV. The only minor drawbacks are the 30-45 second start-up time and a basically average sound system. As with any TV this size, a surround sound system is a necessity for full enjoyment. I bought the 60" model as well, which is great in a big room or basement, but this (or the 50" model) is ideal for most average-sized living rooms. Bottom line: You won't find a better LCD TV.

Strengths: Slimness of design ( 18 inches thick) ; quality of HD picture; ease of use and simple set-up.
Weaknesses: "standard broadcast" reception a litte fuzzy vs HDTV broadcasts
Summary: Researched all current types of High Definition TV's ( Plasma, DLP, LCD ) before deciding on Sony Wega 55 inch model. Slimness of design ( 18 inches thick), quality of picture , and price/value relationship were deciding factors. Use of price grabber product reviews helpful in deciding to go for the "extended warranty.Money saved vs "box stores" more than paid for warranty which gives me "piece of mind" with such a large purchase price. NO ISSUE AT ALL IN DELIVERY OR SET_UP. Originally not sure of size to get but pricegrabber pricing on 55 inch so much lower than Best Buy/Circuit City that chose larger screen.

Strengths: Very clear picture, HD is awesome!, design is very stylish and classy, menu is easy to navigate, sound is very impressive for tv speakers, glare resistant screen is very nice.
Weaknesses: Just one! The remote is kind of lame, it reminds me of one from a 15 year old trinitron.
Summary: I purchased this sony after a thorough review of DLPs and LCDs. The only weekness that really stood out for LCDs was the blacks, which for me seem fine. DLP was marginally better in this aspect but there is not that much difference. I got a good deal on this set for $2700 and could not be happier unless it was replaced with a $15K plasma for free!

I am currently only running with component and a dvd player w/out progressive scan. I am eager to run HDMI and progressive scan, but for now I am very pleased.

I have 5.1 THX surround running for sound. When it is not on, the tv speakers are very good for normal viewing.

All in all. If you dont need a flat panel and can't afford a ten thousand or so dollar tv into your budget, then this is the way to go. I compared it to every similar set for under $5K.

Can't wait until everything is broadcast 16:9 HD! Maybe someday...

Strengths: This one of the best TV out there. I like the fact that it has high def turner build in so I can pick up high def signal without additional hardwares. You get your money worth.
Weaknesses: It takes one or two seconds to switch from one channel to another. This is a little bit long.
Summary: I like the build in high def turner as well as the picture quality. This is my first TV and I love it very much. You get your money worth every penny. I would buy this again if I need to.

Strengths: Easy to setup Picture quality is good even for non HD signals. Sound quality is excellent Integrated Tuners/Memory Stick are good features
Weaknesses: Does not have a simpler way to go thru the favorites. Single button on/off mechanism for captions is not available Remote does not support.work for hometheater systems.
Summary: 2005-01-10 08:56:18 Just had it for around 10 days and started appreciating the big screen affect on all the programs.

Can see the Big screen impact on NFL and NBA games.

Very easy to set up the system. Used Component Video output of my Hometheater system and picture quality turned out excellent for DVDs. Pricegrabber reviews fro others helped me to make the decision. Definitely will recommend to all those who want to purchase expensive plasmas but cannot afford it.

Strengths: Excellent picture quality, easy to set up and use, light weight.
Weaknesses: Television remote will only partially control the satellite receiver.
Summary: Great Product for a great price. Frame of TV is very small so you see mostly screen and not a big plastic frame. Well designed TV and lots of features for a fair price.

3 Star ReviewThe bigscreen TV's picture I got rid of that was o ...
Strengths: execellent hd picture,
Weaknesses: digital cable, and satelite that are not hd look bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Summary: The bigscreen TV's picture I got rid of that was over ten years old looked better than this on satelite and cable. Maybe there is something wrong with mine but if it happens to you, you will be disappointed From reading other reviews on here people said that the digital cable and satelite looked almost as good as high def but in my case it pains me to even watch a regular broadcast not in hd.

Weaknesses: not found yet
Summary: We just have this TV for a few days after comparing LCD and DLP for almost a year. My family enjoy it very much. We have not got any cable or satlitte yet, but by just hooked to my old indoor attena, we can get several HD channel and great picture from off air broadcasting. DVD picture also is great.
