Strengths: Appears to work. This is not a hokey device.
Weaknesses: Large. Not quiet at high speed. Expensive.
Summary: Honeywell sells deionizing units that insert into the airflow stream of home air-based heating systems. Those units hold two deionizers. The people at Friedrich basicly decided to create a stand-alone deionizing unit that would use one of those rather substantial and proven honeywell deionizers. There is not much else to this unit: a fan to pump air through the deionizer, carbon filters at either end, some electronic controls, and a case. The choice of materials for the case, indicates that this is not a high-volume product, which is hardly surprising given its cost.
It appears to work. I get pretty bad allergies during the autumn months. This unit seems to help.
