Summary: 2004-08-18 00:00:00 If your expecting to watch a movie thats educational and expecting to be inspired by the "save our planet" theme your going to be sorely disappointed as this movie is strictly a popcorn movie. As far as disaster movies go "The Day After Tomorrow" ticked all the right boxes (mawkish romance, hero, someone close to the main character dies, a few survivors and a somewhat happy ever after). My only complaint about this movie was the ATROCIOUS dialogue. The level of the script was that of a school play, even the special effects couldn't cloud how truly awful this was. This movie does make you think about a few things and one of them is what part do we play when it comes to contributing to this world. Good film!

The special effects are a wonder, save for the scene with the animated wolves, but honestly, I've seen enough of "Captain Planet" when I was younger to know what environmentalist propaganda looks like. The poorly-disguised caricature of Dick Cheney was also unnecessary.

Summary: 2004-05-30 00:00:00 Ummmm . . . ignoring the impossibility of it all, and the lame title (I mean, come on! This could be a runner-up for "worst movie title", especially considering how ridiculous it sounded when they tried to make it sound "scary" in the previews . . . funny, though . . . ) it was a pretty average "disaster" movie, except instead of focusing on one type of disaster, they make one big one that encompasses several. Good special effects couldn't save it from a fairly dull story. Nothing special.

Summary: 2006-09-13 04:15:00 3 and a half stars for this film which should be worth 5 stars, but is far from it. It could have been so much better. They could have had more than just 5 minutes of scenes of destruction and given the viewer's the movie that was advertized to them. Instead, the destruction is over as soon as it begins, and we get to watch a bunch of people struggle for survival in the aftermath. NOT the movie that was advertized.

Summary: 2005-07-19 07:37:00 A completely uninspired effort. Even the obvious great effort put into special effects did not succeed. Most were good but a few shots were poorly done and not seemless as they should be. The real flaw is the story. It is slow to progress and the "disaster" idea never really came across. It was a bit more complicated than say Meteor! but then again how hard is it to express the disaster feeling when a guy tells the president "Sir, an asteroid the size of Texas is going to hit earth in less than 2 months and we are all going to die". But in this movie there is no effort until far into the movie to even give the impression of impending doom. And by then you are bored. All of the setup was slow and also boring. The rest of the movie is just typical fare. Nothing impressive at all. The acting was unimportant. There weren't taht many characters and still almost no effort to develop them into anything worth watching.

Summary: The story plot was intense and orginal. I loved the actors in it. The weather was suspenseful and sends chills down your spines. But this poem also has a little love story in it too, so it's not all the same.

Summary: 2006-05-15 12:42:00 Bad dialogue. Weak plot requiring more suspension of belief than any Disney movie. Contrived situations of suspense (Wolves?!!). Thickly layered dimestore morality, even if it does agree with my liberal sensibilities. But lighten up guys! It was fun. Great creepy apocalyptic special effects, particularly the L.A. tornado scene with the eerie sun from the horizon lighting. Cute political quips, including a Cheneyesque VP and an ironic twist in the US/Mexico border disputes. Plus, it brought back pleasant memories of the cheesey disaster movies of the 1970s.

One of the worst Hollywood propaganda movies about ...

Summary: 2005-10-29 07:12:00 One of the worst Hollywood propaganda movies about global warming. You don't like global warming? Fine, make a movie better than this! They run from the cold in this awful excuse of a movie. The cold actually stay out. Randy Quaid actuallly sacrifices a useful man to save a son that may, or may not, be alive. He actually finds him, and when he knocks on the door, they get looks on their faces as if the cold decided to try to get them again. Sela Ward stays with a child when no one in their right mind would. People actually freeze instantly. People try to get to safety after they discover the flood waters have frozen. It's odd that Sela, Jake, and Randy all survive in this awful movie. The main family always survives in a disaster movie of this magnitude. I will say this: The scenes involving the three guys monitoring buoys of the coast were great. I wish they were in this movie more.
